  • Music activates every area of the brain meaning it can circumvent stroke damage, issues from plaques/tangles, etc. Seniors can feel frustrated & isolated; the ability to communicate becomes more difficult. Using songs from the past, music can effectively bridge this gap & bring comfort up until our very last breath.

  • It can spark memory recall, diffuse pain & elevate expression that might be dormant. Thanks to a nice neurochemical buzz, the effects can last up to 45 min. after the encounter.

  • It is an all-in-one player built inside of the headphones. No wires. Few buttons and the music is pre-loaded based on your input. Like your cell phone, it will need charged. Plus, it’s Bluetooth meaning it could also connect to other devices.

  • Yes and Yes! No strings attached except sending a testimonial either written or in a video or picture. We always need donors.

  • We target aging adults with memory loss or dementia (i.e., Alzheimer’s, Lewy Bodies, even Parkinson’s or brain injury from stroke). If inventory gets low, preference is given to those living at home with a care partner. 1 per household.

  • YES - see links below. TIPS: Holding the play button down for several seconds is the key to turning ON & OFF. The volume up & down buttons also serve as FORWARD or PREVIOUS TRACK. Instructions are also inside of the box it arrives in.

  • Please send it back to our office and we will recycle it. If you give it to someone who might benefit, I can mail a new mini-SD card with new music for the next user. Don’t stick them in a drawer!

  • You should be keenly aware of how songs make them react. Expect some trial & error here. Encourage movement + ask questions about memories, why they like it, & more. It is an engagement tool! It is not intended to put on & leave them unattended for 75 minutes.

  • Studies have shown using their preferred music 20 minutes before an activity of daily living such as eating, bathing, wound care, etc., can increase their nutrition uptake and foster cooperation. This also includes sun downing.

  • Absolutely not! We disagree with requiring overpriced certifications & courses! We are a stand-alone 501(c)3 governed by Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation.

  • If you run a Memory Cafe or an Adult Day Center, we will consider 5 free headsets. Otherwise, you can buy them on Amazon here.

  • No. Music Therapists are professionally trained & can be credentialed.  They deliver numerous protocols often targeting specific physiological outcomes (heart rate, HRV, blood pressure). Our program is simple & based on 1 tool: the Preferred Playlist. The neurochemical boost is capable of creating a profound impact on the listener. Programs using Preferred Playlists have been endorsed by The American Music Therapy Association.
